Wx for iPhone and iPod Touch

New in Wx 5 is a web app that displays Wx locations and maps on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Here's how it works -- set up weather locations and maps in Wx on your Mac. Then, choose "Mobile Wx Export" from the Wx menu and export a special bookmark to Safari. Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to your computer and sync bookmarks, or e-mail the url to your iPhone and bookmark it there. That's it! Just tap the Wx bookmark in Mobile Safari, and have access to your own custom weather center anywhere you go (wi-fi or EDGE access required).

The mobile version of Wx will display weather for up to 20 locations, and up to 20 maps -- same as Wx on your Mac. Each location has a section for current weather, alerts, radar, and a detailed zone forecast.

A Map

In the radar and map views, you can single-tap the image to zoom in and pan around in full resolution. In addition, the radar view offers an animated loop mode showing the 8 most recent radar images.

For efficient performance, the mobile version of Wx caches all data to minimize unneeded network access. Current weather data, forecasts, and maps are cached on a 20-minute cycle, alerts are cached on a 10-minute cycle, and radar is cached on a 7-minute cycle.

A mobile Wx demo is available here (requires Mobile Safari on iPhone/iPod or Safari 3 on Mac/PC). This demo is limited to two locations and two maps (full version allows 20 locations and 20 maps).

Note that mobile export is only available in registered versions of Wx. Download and register Wx here.

For known issues with the mobile version of Wx, check the Status Blog. Report other issues to the developer.
