Function: This add-on will load forecast winds and temperatures aloft from the National Weather Service Aviation Weather Center. Returned data contains forecast wind direction and speed as well as forecast temperatures.

The input setting format for this add-on is:

winds_aloft:area:level:time

where winds_aloft is the add-on name, area is the area region for forecasts, level is the altitude range, and time is the "for-use" interval.

The available area names are: boston, chicago, miami, ftworth, saltlake, sanfrancisco, alaska, hawaii, westpac. See the map below:

The altitude ranges are either lo or hi, as follows:

Low Level (lo)
  • 3,000 feet
  • 6,000 feet
  • 9,000 feet
  • 12,000 feet
  • 18,000 feet
  • 24,000 feet
  • 30,000 feet
  • 34,000 feet
  • 39,000 feet
High Level (hi)
  • 45,000 feet
  • 53,000 feet

Finally, allowable "for use" times are 06 (zero-six, six hours), 12 (12 hours), or 24 (24 hours).

Example 1: the winds aloft forecast for the boston area, high level, with a for-use time of 12 hours. The add-on setting for Wx in this case would be:

winds_aloft:boston:hi:12

Example 2: the winds aloft forecast for the saltlake area, low level, with a for-use time of 6 hours. The add-on setting for Wx in this case would be:

winds_aloft:saltlake:lo:06
